Q: Why choose a NAEYC accredited nursery school?
A: NAEYC-accredited programs are committed to providing high-quality educational services to young children and their families. While the accreditation process examines all aspects of a program - including health and safety, teacher qualifications, and administration - the focus is on the interactions between teachers and children, and the quality of the child's experience.
Q: I noticed that St. John's Nursery School is associated with an Episcopal Church. Do you only have Episcopalian/Christian children at the school?
A: We are open to all members of the community and have children of many faiths in our school. We celebrate Jewish holidays, Christian Holidays and Chinese New Year along with other celebrations throughout the year, and all of our children love to participate. There is, of course, a different level of understanding at this age group, and our teachers discuss aspects of a holiday's meaning at an appropriate level.
Q: You indicate you are a 'secure' facility. What does that entail?
A: The entrances to our school are locked at all times. Children are picked up at outside playground gates and dismissed by teacher direction, and no child is dismissed without pre-arranged permission from a parent.
Q: Can parents really stop in and observe their child anytime?
A: Yes! Parents are also encouraged to visit IN the classroom at any time. Grandparents and Parents are encouraged to participate in our program by sharing specific talents, story reading at Circle Time, or just coming to hang out and play.
Q: Are classes structured, and what about free-play time?
A: We have a basic schedule for each day. Blocks of time and areas of activity are planned and occur in sequence. Within that framework there is considerable flexibility, however, and children are encouraged to choose activities that interest them. The children are encouraged to play alone as well as in small or large groups and they have opportunities for experiencing both free and structured activities
